how a joke in the shop tunred into a patent pending reality

What started off as a joke might be getting a little more serious.

It all began one day while I was welding up the covered shell on the bed of @War_Dog_Gladiator. Somewhere between sparks and sarcasm, I thought,

“How funny would it be if I made some kind of gimbal system for my cooler — so it stayed level while we’re out there wheeling and thrashing on the trail?”

The idea was ridiculous. But also… kind of genius.

I built the first “prototype” in the shop — a few pieces of metal, some questionable angles, and a lot of hope. We strapped it to the Jeep and took it to Jeeptoberfest 2025 in Florida.

Let’s just say it was a massive fail. 🤣

How that thing stayed attached to the rig all day was a miracle. But as any real off-roader knows — once something fails in front of a crowd, it becomes a challenge.

So, Challenge Accepted.

MEET the mad scientist

About the Mad Scientist Behind Cooler Gimbal®

From the time most kids were playing with toys, I was tearing mine apart to see how they worked.
That obsession turned into a lifelong obsession of building, breaking, and re-engineering anything with wheels, gears, or fuel.

I joined the U.S. Marine Corps as a Tank Mechanic working on the M1A1 Abrams — the baddest machine on treads.
After the Corps, I joined General Dynamics as a Test Engineer, helping design, build, and field-test a classified prototype military vehicle.
I didn’t just wrench on it — I wrote parts of the technical manuals and helped push that project from concept to combat-ready.

When I left the defense world, I couldn’t sit still.
I opened a performance shop, building and tuning drag racing cars from the ground up — and I wasn’t content to stay in the garage. I also raced in the SCCA circuit, testing my own creations at full throttle.

Over the years, that passion evolved into something bigger: hand-building off-road machines from scratch, each one more extreme than the last.
Every weld, mount, and modification on my rigs came from my own hands — because when you know how to build it yourself, there’s no limit to what you can do with it.

Today, that same mindset drives Cooler Gimbal® — a “mad scientist” idea that started as a joke and turned into a patent-pending product that literally defies gravity.
It’s not about gadgets or gimmicks. It’s about solving real problems on the trail with raw engineering, brute creativity, and a little bit of madness.

where we are now…

ENGINEERING AND DEVELOPMENT

NEW!

At Cooler Gimbal®, we don’t guess — we engineer.
Every component of the Cooler Gimbal system is modeled, tested, and refined using state-of-the-art CAD design and simulation technology. We combine advanced 3D modeling, finite-element analysis, and precision CNC prototyping to make sure our mounts perform in the real world — not just on paper.

Our design process blends mechanical engineering discipline with hands-on trail testing. Every pivot, weld, and tolerance is built around real off-road conditions — steep climbs, side-hill articulation, and high-G shock loads that would destroy lesser gear.

We prototype in-house using CNC-machined aluminum, TIG-welded steel, and laser-cut components, then field-test each design on real rigs until it earns the Cooler Gimbal® badge. No marketing hype — just iterative, data-driven design backed by decades of mechanical experience.

The result is a patent-pending system built from the ground up to keep your cooler level when gravity isn’t your friend.

BE A PART OF THE COOLER GIMBAL® TEAM

A black off-road vehicle navigating rocky terrain in a wooded area.

We’re putting the first production run of the Cooler Gimbal® into the hands of real off-roaders — not lab testers.
Before we unleash it on the world, we want it beaten, flexed, bounced, and punished by the people who live for this lifestyle.

We’re building a small group of trail testers and early adopters from across the off-road community to help us put the Cooler Gimbal® through the most demanding, real-world conditions imaginable. If selected, you’ll receive one of the very first production units — free of charge — in exchange for your honest feedback, videos, and test notes.

We don’t want polished reviews or marketing fluff. We want truth — how it holds up, what breaks, what you’d improve, and how it performs when gravity tries to win.

If you’d like to help shape the future of Cooler Gimbal®, submit your info below and tell us a little about your rig, your trails, and why you’d make a great part of our R&D crew.

Let’s build something epic — together.

Where we are heading…..

Truth is — we’re not entirely sure where this ride ends.

Cooler Gimbal® started as a crazy idea in a garage, and it’s already grown faster than we ever expected. Maybe this thing stays small — a few custom-built units for close friends, die-hard off-roaders, and those who appreciate functional engineering done right.

Or maybe it blows up — with manufacturing partners, global distribution, and Cooler Gimbal® mounted on every Jeep, buggy, and overland rig from Moab to Australia.

Wherever it goes, one thing’s certain: we’re all in.
We’re here to keep building, testing, and pushing until gravity finally gives up.

So buckle up. We’re just getting started.
